How we publish

Editorial Policy

Our publishing standard is built around useful homeowner guidance, traceable claims, transparent uncertainty, and visible disclosures.

Editorial standards · Updated July 30, 2026

Editorial mission

We aim to help readers make better-informed decisions about permanent outdoor lighting without hype, hidden guarantees, or invented expertise. Articles should answer the reader’s question early, explain important tradeoffs, and make safety limitations easy to find.

Source standards

We prioritize primary and authoritative sources: current manufacturer specifications, installation manuals, warranty documents, product-support pages, safety organizations, government or code authorities, and original documentation. Secondary sources may provide context, but material claims should be checked against stronger evidence whenever practical.

Product comparisons

Comparisons should use consistent, reader-relevant criteria such as installation method, power and control approach, weather rating, app features, integrations, warranty, serviceability, pricing model, and likely ownership needs. We distinguish published specifications from estimates, observations, and opinion.

We do not state that a product was purchased, installed, measured, lab-tested, or used hands-on unless the article clearly documents that experience. Access to a sample or demonstration, if any, will be disclosed.

Prices and changing information

Prices, promotions, availability, software features, and warranty terms change. Articles should identify the date of meaningful updates and encourage readers to confirm time-sensitive details. Cost examples must be framed as estimates, not quotes or guaranteed project totals.

Safety and professional review

Installation content must not encourage readers to exceed their training or ignore manufacturer instructions, electrical rules, fall protection, property permissions, or local requirements. High-risk work should direct readers to a licensed electrician, qualified installer, building official, or another appropriate professional.

Advertising, affiliate, and sponsored content

Advertising and affiliate relationships are kept separate from editorial conclusions. A commission opportunity does not determine rankings or recommendations. Affiliate relationships are disclosed. Sponsored content, if accepted, must be clearly labeled and is not permitted to imitate independent editorial material.

AI-assisted tools

AI-assisted tools may support research organization, outlining, drafting, or editing. Automated output is not treated as evidence. Our publishing standard requires material facts, quotes, specifications, safety statements, and links to be checked against appropriate sources before or during editorial review. We do not use AI as a basis for invented hands-on experience or credentials.

Corrections

Readers, brands, and professionals may report a possible error through the Contact page. Include the article URL, disputed statement, and supporting source. We review specific, verifiable requests. When a material error is confirmed, the content should be corrected promptly; significant updates may be noted in the article.

Review and update priorities

  • safety-critical or materially misleading statements;
  • outdated product specifications, warranties, or availability;
  • broken or misleading links;
  • cost examples that no longer provide useful context; and
  • articles receiving credible reader or manufacturer feedback.

Reader responsibility

Our editorial process improves reliability but cannot account for every property, jurisdiction, or product revision. Readers should confirm important decisions with current documentation and qualified local professionals.
